How to use Echo Show as security camera viewing device

So long you have access to a decent internet connection, you can use Amazon Echo Show to preview the live feed from your home or office space. Yes, the Artificial Intelligence-powered touch-screen display can essentially be used as a security camera monitor. Let’s quickly look at the steps to use Echo Show as security camera viewing device.

Use Echo Show as security camera viewing device

The screen-bedecked Alexa device lets you build your own home security system. But to use Echo Show as security camera. You’ll need to set up the following things.

  1. Add your Echo Show.
  2. Enable Alexa Communication for Calling & Messaging.
  3. Turn On Drop-in for My Household.
  4. Drop-in on your Echo Show.

Before proceeding with the above steps make sure your Echo Show Camera is On.  How to turn on the camera on Echo Show 5? Simply slide the switch along the top edge of the voice-controlled display. You’ll see a message reading, ‘Camera On’.

1] Add your Echo Show

Open Alexa app on your Smartphone.

Tap Devices icon, choose your Echo Show device under Echo & Alexa.

2] Enable Alexa Communication for Calling & Messaging

Once your device is selected, scroll down to the Communication option under the General heading of Alexa App Device Settings.

Enable the Calling & Messaging option.

3] Turn On Drop-in for My Household

Just below Calling & Messaging, tap the Drop In.

Check the My Household option. This will grant Drop In permission for your device.

if you are not aware of how to grant Drop In permission on Echo Show, don’t worry!

Select Communicate tab > your Echo Show under My Home. Then, under the Permissions heading, turn on Allow Drop In option.

4] Drop-in on your Echo Show

Drop-in lets household members and contacts instantly connect to your Echo devices. So, if there’s a kid playing around in the living room and you have the Echo Show placed there, you can keep tabs on his activities even when you are away.

Hit the Communicate button (visible as a speech bubble) and tap the Drop In icon.

Under Drop In On My Device heading, select your Echo Show and connect with it instantly.
