You can also change noise control modes via your AirPods Max. Simply press the noise control button on the right headphone. You’ll hear a chime sound confirming the change.

What are Active Noise Cancelation and Transparency mode?

Active Noise Cancellation, as the name suggests is a technique designed to detect and cancel external sounds from reaching your ears by countering them with anti-noise.

Transparency mode, on the other hand, allows outside sound to flow in, so you can know what’s happening around you. Both, Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode work best when your AirPods Max is comfortably placed and covers your ears fully well.

How do AirPods Max cancel noise?

Apple’s over-ear headphones are designed to perform well even during windy conditions. So, when Active Noise Cancellation or ANC is enabled, its outward-facing microphones detect external sound and nullify it by corresponding inverted audio frequencies before it reaches your ears. Similarly, the inward-facing microphone listens inside your ear for unwanted internal sounds and counters with anti-noise.
