How to set up Echo show video calling via Amazon Alexa app

The Alexa app offers hands-free options for calling family, friends, and other contacts. So, apart from checking daily weather forecasts and booking an Uber ride, you can use Alexa-enabled Echo devices for making phone calls and video calls. This guide walks you through the process of setting up Echo Show video calling via the Alexa app on your Smartphone.

How to enable Echo Show video calling

Amazon’s Echo Show video calling can be enabled over Wi-Fi or mobile data on your phone at no extra cost.

  1. Launch the Alexa app on your Smartphone.
  2. Select Communicate icon at the bottom.
  3. Tap Call button.
  4. Choose your Echo Show device under My Home.
  5. Make the call.
  6. Wait for the recipient to respond (Accept or decline the call).

Before setting up Echo Show 8 video calling, make sure your device meets the following minimum requirements.

  • Echo Show device (Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8 or Echo Show 10)
  • An amazon account for the recipient.
  • A Phone number for the recipient.
  • A Smartphone or a tablet to setup the device.

How to video call on the Echo Show?

Assuming the caller and the recipient, both have signed up for calling and messaging in their Alexa app, do the following.

On your Smartphone, launch the Alexa app.

Select Communicate icon visible at the bottom of the smartphone screen.

Then, choose Call option.

Select your Echo Show device (If you’ve not set up Echo Show on your Smartphone, open the Alexa app > go to Devices > select Echo & Alexa. Choose the Echo device you want to pair with your Alexa Gadget).

Choose a contact to make the call. The call automatically gets routed to the Echo device owned by the person you’re calling.

Allow the recipient to respond by either accepting or rejecting the call.

Can you group video call on Echo Show?

Yes, if you’ve Echo Show set up and running, you can now make a group call with a simple verbal command or a few taps on the device’s screen. Echo Show group calling supports up to seven people at a time.

Swipe left on your device’s home screen and select the Communicate option.

Tap on the Call option.

Make the group call.

Can you video call on Echo Show, internationally?

You can call make calls on all Echo Shows in any country that supports Alexa-to-Alexa Calling & Messaging. However, non-Echo landline and mobile calls are limited to a few regions only – U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
