How to Keep the Mac menu bar visible on the screen all time

January 8, 2022 by Hemant Saxena

Quite often, the Mac Menu bar is only visible when you move the pointer to the top of the screen. Experts claim it remains hidden for a reason i.e., to allow you to focus only on the window’s content but if you aren’t happy with this layout, you can change it in an instant. Read along to find how to make the Mac Menu Bar visible on the screen all time.

How to make the Mac Menu bar always visible on the screen?

The Mac menu bar runs along the top of the screen on your MacBook. It accommodates menus, icons, and options that let you choose commands, perform tasks, or check the status of the running apps. So, if you wish to have quick access to all these options, stop hiding this space from your view and make the Menu with all its items, visible in full-screen mode.

  1. Click the Apple menu.
  2. Choose System Preferences.
  3. Select Dock & Menu Bar from the preference pane.
  4. Click the Dock & Menu Bar heading.
  5. Uncheck the ‘Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen’ box.
  6. Save the changes.

By default, the option to automatically hide the menu bar is set to On. As such, it’s shown only when you move the pointer to the top of the screen.

How do I keep the menu bar or toolbar visible all the time Mac?

You can stop the Menu bar from disappearing by changing the default settings under your Dock & Menu Bar System Preferences. These preferences control the appearance of the Menu bar and allow you to select items to show under it and in Control Center.

To get started, click the Apple menu (visible in the upper-left corner of your desktop screen).

Then, from the list of options displayed, select the System Preferences entry.

When the System Preferences window opens, choose the Dock & Menu Bar icon.

Then, go to the Dock & Menu Bar heading under the sidebar and scroll down to the Menu section on the right. Here, simply uncheck the box next to the ‘Automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen’ entry.

Once done, close the window to save the changes and exit the Preferences pane.

Now, the next time you take an app full screen, the menu bar will appear there permanently at the top of the window and not disappear when you move the pointer away from the region.

Hope that makes sense!
