How to use the Instagram download data tool to collect your data

Businesses that collect information about their users online must protect their personal data and maintain privacy. Adhering to this rule, networking sites like Instagram allow users to download and see what information is collected about them. Here’s a short tutorial explaining to you how to use the Instagram download data setting to get all the information you need.

Use the Instagram download data tool to collect data?

As part of its compliance with Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy rules and to give users more control over their data, Instagram allows its users to get a copy of their online data using the Data Download tool. Here’s how to get started with the Instagram download data tool.

  1. Tap your Profile icon.
  2. Go to Menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Scroll down to the Security setting.
  5. Choose Download data under Data and history heading.
  6. Tap the Request Download button.
  7. Enter your Password.
  8. Check your inbox for a link.
  9. Download the file.

The Data Download tool resides under the Security settings of your account. It lets you request a file that includes your photos, comments, profile information, and more.

How to download all of your Instagram data?

Launch the Instagram app.

Tap the Profile icon, located in the lower-right corner of the app screen.

Tap the Menu icon (visible as 3 horizontal bars in the upper-right corner).

Choose Settings to go to the Settings screen.

Scroll down to Security entry. Tap the side-arrow to expand its menu.

Now, under the Data and history heading, select Download data option.

Hit the Request Download button as shown in the screenshot above.

Enter Password
Enter Password

Enter the password for the email address you provided to Instagram.

Instantly, Instagram will start creating a file of things you’ve shared on your account and email a link. It may take up to 48 hours to collect the data and send it.

Note – Downloading your data is a password-protected process. As such, only you will have access to your download file in a machine-readable format.

Does Instagram data download include deleted photos?

No! The download file does not include content you deleted from your Instagram account.
