Apple's iOS focuses more on multi-tasking. This makes devices like the iPad, running on it, a more powerful machine. For example, the new OS adds a nifty feature - Slide-over apps. It adds the ability to have a third app open at the same time. Let’s see what you can do with the new Slide Over iPad feature.
How to enable Slide Over iPad feature with a split view?
Many of us have the habit of running several apps in tandem and switching between them, whenever required. For such users, the iPad offers a multi-tasking feature called Slide Over iPad. It lets slide one app over the other and view information from one app while using the other.
- Go to iPad Home Screen.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Dock.
- Touch and hold an app icon.
- Drag the app to the side of the screen.
- Repeat the same for other apps.
- Swipe left from the right edge of the screen to open Slide Over.
- Drag sideways to cycle between apps.
- Swipe up the bar at the bottom of the Slide Over window to view all opened apps.
Thus, with Slide Over iPad feature active and running, you can do more than one thing on your iPad at a time.
How to use Slide Over on iPad?
Before you proceed further, make sure you have enabled the Multitasking feature under your iPad's settings.
On your Apple iPad Home Screen, swipe up gently from the bottom of the screen to see the Dock.
Tap and hold the app in the dock. Without releasing it, drag the app to the sideway of your screen and let go.
Drag the second app to the screen in a similar way. It will float on top of the first app in a small window.
Now, swipe left from the right edge of the screen to open Slide Over and drag sideways along the bar at the bottom edge to cycle between apps. This is useful if you want to glance at your Twitter feed or for sharing information between apps.
You can also make visible the apps that are currently opened in the Slide Over at the same time. For this, simply swipe up the handlebar at the bottom of the slide-over window.
You should see all currently opened tabs fanned out. Select an app to use it.
How to make Slide Over app o full-screen?
Drag the Bar at the top of the app to the center of your iPad screen and boom, the app will go full-screen.
Close Slide Over iPad
If you would like to turn off Slide Over iPad feature, go to its Settings.
Scroll down a bit on the left to find Home Screen & Dock entry.
Switch to the Multitasking option on the right and turn On the toggle next to Allow Multiple Apps to turn off Split View and Slipe Over multitasking heading.
Note - Slide View feature is available only on newer iPads, such as the iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4.
