How to use the Live Text in iPhone to take different actions on the identified text
An equally important part of your iPhone experience is its camera app but it isn’t just meant for taking photos. You can do a lot more with it. For instance, you can now recognize and extract any text in a photo or a screenshot and add it to a document or a note.
- Open Settings, go to General.
- Scroll down to Language & Region.
- Locate Live Text to enable it.
- Open the Camera and position the iPhone so the text appears within the camera frame.
- Tap the Live Text button.
- Swipe or use grab points to select text.
- Take the desired action.
- then do any of the following:
- Tap the Live Text On button to return to Camera.
The Live Text iPhone feature is very similar to Google Lens that works in Google Search and Photos app on iOS.
How do I activate Live Text?
Before you begin testing the capability of Live Text, enable it under Settings. For this, open Settings and go to the General section.
There, scroll down to the Language & Region section.
When the new screen appears, go to the bottom and enable the toggle switch next to the Live Text option.
Once done, open the Camera app to position the iPhone so the text appears within the camera frame.
When you see the yellow around detected text, tap the Live Text button.
Swipe or use grab points to adjust the text selection. Then, take the desired action. For example, you can perform actions like copying chunks of text into a document, opening addresses in the Maps app, adding numbers to your Contacts list book, or calling them directly.
Does live text work on other languages?
Yes! The Live Text is currently supported in English, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
What devices are compatible with live text?
You need an iPhone XS, iPhone XR, or newer models running iOS 15 or later to test the Live Text capability. Plus, it also works on the following iPad models –
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch model (third generation or later)
- iPad Pro 11-inch model (all generations)
- iPad Air (third generation or later)
- iPad (eighth generation or later)
- iPad mini (fifth generation or later)
