An easy trick to enable Apple HomePod intercom feature

In applications where wires cannot be run, a wireless system like Intercom finds its potent use. The device not only allows you to tighten the security measures of your homes but also keeps away intruders or unwanted salesmen and stops them from bothering you. It’s generally mounted on vehicles and in buildings, but the same capability now comes with built-in Apple devices. You can use HomePod as an intercom. So, let’s see how this new Apple HomePod Intercom feature works.

How to use the Apple HomePod Intercom feature for communication?

The Apple HomePod Intercom voice communication system lets you send and receive messages from one HomePod to another, or with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, and CarPlay. Here’s how to get started with the HomePod Intercom setup!

  1. Open the Apple Home app.
  2. Tap the Home icon
  3. Select Home Settings.
  4. Choose Intercom.
  5. Go to the Home App again.
  6. Tap the Intercom icon.
  7. Speak the Message that you would like to send.
  8. Tap Done to send.

Before proceeding further and using HomePod as Intercom, it is essential to make you aware of some caveats in the feature. First, you should be using two HomePods, with each set up to function separately and not as a stereo pair. Second, For Apple Watch to use Intercom, it must be running watchOS 7.1.

How to use Intercom on HomePod?

On your iPhone or Apple Watch, launch the Home app.

Tap the Home icon, visible in the upper-left corner of your device’s screen.

From the list of options displayed, select Home Settings.

Go to Intercom. Turn on the feature.

Head back to the Home app. Locate the Intercom icon in the upper-right corner of the app screen.

Say your Intercom message. Try something like “Tell everyone to gather in the Living room area”.

When you’ve finished recording, tap Done to end the voice recording.

After your HomePod or device receives an Intercom message, you can reply back.

Apple Intercom not working?

As mentioned earlier, the Apple Intercom System becomes active only when you have two or more HomePods.

HomePod Intercom not showing up?

Check the Location services for the Home app. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Select the Home app and set it to ‘While Using the App’.

Intercom could not be delivered HomePod?

The exact cause for this issue is unknown but there’s a definite workaround for it. Simply disable your Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth connectivity and try sending the message over a cellular network. It should work!
