One of the hidden keyboard gems I discovered lately about my iPhone is that its keyboard can double down as an iPhone trackpad. So, if you have been just as Clueless as me about it in the past, try this new iPhone hack and make editing text on your iPhone a lot easier.
How to unveil the hidden iPhone trackpad?
By enabling the hidden iPhone trackpad, you can quickly scroll through text or move the pointer around the iPhone screen to jump bits of text, all without having to tap on the screen. Plus, there’s no need to download any third-party app or pay a dime for it. We had already covered the method to use a mouse on iPhone/iPad. Now, it’s time to walk you through an entirely different process i.e., unlock the hidden iPhone trackpad.
- Open the Notes app or any other note-taking app to edit text.
- bring up the keyboard by gently tapping the screen space.
- Press and hold your finger down on the space key for a few seconds.
- Wait for the keyboard to go blank.
- Check if the cursor has enlarged.
- Move your finger around on the screen as on the trackpad.
Generally, Apple does a fair job in educating its customers about important features of iPhone and iPad, but there can be occasions such as this, where the Cupertino-giant can err, or some of the relatively useful features of its products may go unnoticed.
How do I use my iPhone touchpad?
The default iOS keyboard on any iPhone (6S or later) has a hidden trackpad that you can unlock with a simple trick. For this, just bring up the keyboard by tapping inside any note-taking app where you’ve written a block of text.
Now, gently press and hold your finger down on the space key until the keyboard goes blank or characters on the keys disappear.
You should experience a bit of haptic feedback instantly and the cursor on the screen should enlarge for a second.
When it occurs as mentioned, your keyboard will be ready for use as a trackpad. You can very this easily by following this step – with your finger still pressed down, move it around the entire keyboard. You should see the cursor moving, just like the one on your MacBook trackpad.
Now, to jump bits of text or place the cursor at the desired position, simply lift your finger off the screen. You can then use any of the other keys as normal.
Hope it makes sense!
