Like many other apps, the Facebook Messenger app is now equipped with settings that allow users to hide their messages from others. The app has introduced 2 new privacy controls – Face ID and Touch ID authentication that help you maintain privacy. Enable Require Face ID in Facebook Messenger app for iOS
The newly introduced privacy and security features for Messenger on iOS, add Face ID, and Touch ID authentication for the app to be opened. So, you can let a friend borrow your phone without worrying and that person still wouldn’t be able to access your Messenger chats.
- Open Facebook Messenger app for iOS.
- Click the Profile icon.
- Choose Privacy.
- Go to App lock.
- Enable Require Face ID.
Require Face ID update for Facebook Messenger app adds an extra layer of security to Messenger chats.
Open Facebook Messenger app for iOS. Make sure you are using the latest version of the app. If you are not running the latest version, download and install it first.
Next, click on the Profile icon visible in the upper-left corner of your iPhone screen.
Choose Privacy option, when seen.
Next, scroll down to locate ‘App Lock’ option. Click it.
When the new screen appears, simply toggle the switch for ‘Require Face ID’ to ‘On’ position to enable the setting.
This privacy control will configure Messenger app to use Face ID to unlock the app. You can still reply to messages from notifications and answer calls while messenger is locked. The feature is safe for use as your Face ID will not be transmitted to or stored by Facebook.
Facebook, Inc. notes that the feature is similar to that offered by Instagram, which runs some more fine-grained controls for messaging.
