How to stop video autoplay in Twitter to save your mobile data

Twitter website or app begins to autoplay videos as soon as you open your timeline or land on a page. This is a ploy of the worst sort. Fortunately, you can choose to stop video autoplay altogether or restrict its visibility. So, if you think that some indiscreet videos are demanding your attention unnecessarily, burning through your mobile data plan, or sucking up the battery, read this post to find a solution.

How to stop video autoplay on your Twitter Timeline?

Apps and websites that autoplay videos are prominent across the web and their experience remain similar across every platform. This arrangement looks convenient, but it can be a costly affair especially when you want to preserve your mobile data or avoid any disturbing content. Here’s what you can do to stop video autoplay on your Twitter Timeline.

  1. Open your Twitter mobile app.
  2. Tap your profile icon.
  3. Go to Settings and privacy.
  4. Scroll down to Accessibility, display, and languages.
  5. Expand Data usage heading.
  6. Go to the Video autoplay option, expand the entry.
  7. Select the desired option.

The autoplay feature in Twitter is enabled by default. And in the case of the Twitter app for iOS, it’s already set to autoplay videos whether a user is on Wi-Fi or a cellular connection. So, it makes sense to disable the setting.

How do I stop videos from automatically playing on Twitter iPhone?

Note when you disable video autoplay in Twitter, it will stop videos, GIFs from auto playing in your timeline. So, to get started, do the following.

Launch the Twitter app for iOS.

Tap your profile icon in the upper-left corner and scroll down to the Settings and privacy entry.

Now, go to the Accessibility, display, and languages setting to manage how Twitter content is displayed to you.

When directed to a new screen, choose the Data Usage heading displayed at the bottom.

Now, go to the Video autoplay entry and tap the side-arrow to expand the menu of options. You’ll see 3 options namely,

  • On cellular or Wi-Fi (default).
  • Only on Wi-Fi.
  • Never.

If you would like to disable autoplay on Twitter completely, choose the last option i.e., Never. Else, select Only on Wi-Fi to limit the video autoplay on Wi-Fi connection only.

To do the same on Twitter Web (Desktop Version) choose More (3 horizontal dots) > Settings and privacy.

Then, navigate to the Accessibility, display and languages > Data Usage > Autoplay section.

Now, choose the desired option (On cellular or Wi-Fi, Only on Wi-Fi or Never).

The changes will be applied instantaneously.
