WhatsApp is used as the default messaging service on probably every Smartphone today. In fact, it has become the world’s fastest-growing communication app. But there’s one problem associated with the service. Whenever you download a media file, it’s automatically saved to your phone gallery. This arrangement is not desirable as it can take up a lot of storage space. Here’s how you can stop downloading WhatsApp photos to iPhone Camera Roll directly.
How to stop downloading WhatsApp Photos to iPhone Camera Roll?
The app, though useful in many cases has one big shortfall. When someone in a group sends images or videos in multiple numbers, these get saved to the Photo Gallery, automatically. It occurs because the ‘Media visibility‘ option in the app is set to ‘On’ by default. To stop downloading WhatsApp Photos to iPhone Camera Roll directly, follow these steps.
- Launch WhatsApp app on your Smartphone.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Chats option.
- Toggle the switch for Save to Camera Roll to Off position.
- Go to Storage and data under WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Photos side-arrow.
- Select Never option.
Kindly note, this feature only affects new media that’s downloaded and doesn’t apply to old media.
Why is WhatsApp saving photos to Camera Roll?
Like most other platforms, WhatsApp does it in an attempt to provide you quick access to your media content (Photos and videos). However, if you don’t want these unnecessary media files clogging up your iPhone’s Camera Roll, change the Data and Storage Usage setting.
How to stop WhatsApp saving photos to gallery iPhone?
Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone.
Choose the ‘Settings’ icon located at the bottom.
When directed to a new window, select the WhatsApp Chats option visible there.
In the new screen that appears, disable the option for ‘Save to Camera Roll’. When it is enabled, the option automatically saves Photos and Videos to your iPhone’s Camera Roll.
Now, you’ll need to check WhatsApp Storage and data too since, although you have disabled the service from saving photos and videos to your iPhone’s Camera Roll, it will continue downloading them under its own app storage. So, open WhatsApp Settings and go to ‘Data and Storage Usage’.
Then under Media auto-download heading, choose ‘Photos’. In the next screen that appears – ‘Never’.
That’s all there to it!
