How to share your location on iPhone through iMessage

If you don’t mind sharing your whereabouts, you can use the iMessage app to share your location on iPhone or notify people about your current location. The app supports a built-in feature that automatically pins your location inside a map attachment. Besides, you also add a text message, alongside the attachment.

Use the iMessage app to share your location on iPhone

While you’re on the move, you can share your location on iPhone but before doing that make sure, you’ve enabled location services in your iPhone’s Settings app.

1. Open the Messages app.
2. Select a message.
3. Tap the name of the person.
4. Tap the Info icon.
5. Select the Send My Current Location option.
6. Set the length of time that you want to share your location for.
7. Request the recipient to choose a map service (preferably, maps.apple.com).
8. Tap the Directions button to reach the destination.
9. End the Route.

How to share My Location on iPhone?

You can share your location with one or more people through the Messages app on your iPhone.

To get started open the Messages app on your iPhone and select a message.

Select the name of the person at the top of the conversation.

Among the options provided, select the ‘info’ icon.

As shown in the image above, either select ‘Send My Current Location’ or ‘Share My Location’.

Your recipient will see your location on the map.

Then, choose the length of time that you want to share your location. (Note – You must have the ‘Location’ services enabled under ‘Settings’).

Once done, you can request the recipient to tap the message to show your current location on the map. Choose a service (Preferably, maps.apple.com).

Then, hit the Directions button to determine the distance and time required to reach you.

Upon reaching your destination, you can end the route.

The shortfall of this feature – Broadcasting or sharing your location continuously drains the battery power. As such, it may impact your battery life. If you are running low on battery or if you’ve only got 10 percent battery left and need your phone to last the rest of the day, sharing your location is not recommended!

How to stop sharing location on iPhone?

It’s simple! Just tap the Share My Location link and toggle the switch to the Off position.
