Disable Voice Profile Setting in Skills for Alexa app

July 13, 2020 by Hemant Saxena

Alexa app leverages voice profiles to recognize different users in a household and offer a personalized experience to them. The samples of these voice profiles are stored under a setting called Personalize skills that lets some third-party skills recognize individual customers. If you would like to disable Voice Profile Setting Personalize Skills for Alexa app for a user, here’s how to go about it!

Before proceeding further note that turning off or disabling this setting doesn’t disable account-level skill personalization or account linking for skills that rely on this feature.

How to disable Voice Profile Setting in skills for Alexa app

To distinguish one user from another, Alexa assigns different voice profiles a numeric identifier in the skill. The Skill settings then successfully identify who is speaking and suggest some personalized experience, based on past skill interactions. To turn off Voice Profile Setting Personalize Skills for Alexa, follow the steps given below. Remember that you must have an existing Voice Profile enabled to use personalized skills.

  1. Access Alexa app.
  2. Go to the menu
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Choose your Profile.
  5. Select Voice (Manage).
  6. Open Voice profile settings.
  7. Turn Personalize Skills on or off.

Amazon never shares your voice profile or voice recordings with third-party skill developers. Neither does it share your personal information with third-party skill developers without your consent.

Turn Off Alexa Voice Profile

Launch the Alexa app and go to the ‘Menu’ (visible as 3 horizontal bars) in the upper right corner of your device’s screen.

Then, from the list of options displayed, select the ‘Settings’ option.
