One of the most common image formats used on the World Wide Web after JPEG is GIF. It is a type of highly compressed image format that turns static images into animated ones. A built-in function in Twitter now lets you post a GIF on Twitter. So, if you are wondering how to post or upload an animated GIF for a single tweet, read along!

How to make a GIF on Twitter and upload it to your account?

You can add looping animations to your tweets and view GIFs on the Twitter app. To create a GIF on Twitter, follow the instructions given below.

  1. Open the Twitter app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Compose Tweet icon (visible as a feather icon).
  3. Click the GIF icon from your phone.
  4. Choose the desired GIF from the library on your phone.
  5. Allow the GIF to attach to your Tweet in full size.
  6. Add descriptions, if required.
  7. Click Tweet to post the GIF.

How to save GIF on Twitter?

Launch the Twitter app on your iPhone.

From the Tweet compose box, click the photo icon to capture or upload a photo or video from your phone.

To search for and upload a GIF from the GIF library, click the GIF icon from your phone or computer.

Choose a photo or GIF to attach to your Tweet in full size. Note: Animated GIFs can't be included in Tweets with multiple images. You can send only one GIF in a Tweet.

How to post a GIF on Twitter from Camera Roll of your iPhone?

Tap the Compose tweet icon, choose the Photo option, and select the Allow Access to all Photos to attach an existing iOS Live Photo from your iPhone.

How to upload your own GIF to Twitter?

As described above, you can attach an existing iOS Live Photo of yours as a Twitter GIF profile picture and add it to the tweet.

What Twitter GIF size is acceptable?

When you upload GIFs to the Twitter library, it is automatically scaled for display and expanded. However, if you are uploading a GIF via the web, you can add a file up to 15MB. On mobile, this size should not exceed 5MB. Similarly, you can upload photos up to 5MB.

Twitter GIF not uploading or GIFs?

Please note that Twitter only accepts GIF, JPEG, and PNG files. So, if you are uploading BMP, TIFF or other file formats, it won’t work!
