The process to shut down or exit apps on Apple Watch are notably different from the process of closing apps on iOS. here’s how to close apps on Apple Watch!

  1. Unlock your Smartwatch.
  2. Press the side button.
  3. Choose the app you want to close.
  4. Swipe to left of the Watch screen.
  5. Tap the Close to remove the app from the background.

Whether you want to declutter the background space or extend the battery life, the process to close apps on Apple Watch is straightforward.

Unlock your Apple Watch with the passcode.

Press the side button, located just below the Dial to make the dock visible.

The Dock shows all the apps running in the background. If no apps are open, you’ll get the following message – Recently used apps appear here.

Select the app, you would like to close and stop it from running in the background.

Swipe your finger from right to left.

When the Close button with a ‘X’ mark appears in red, tap the button.

Your app/s will close.

Why can’t I close apps on my Apple Watch?

There can be occasions where an app on your Apple Watch may stop responding or not shut down. During such instances, you can Force Quit apps on Apple Watch. With the app open, simply press and hold the side button to show the power options. Then, press and hold the Digital Crown to quit the app.

Do Apple Watch apps run in background?

Yes! The Dock gives you quick access to the apps you use the most. You can add up to 10 apps to the Dock to keep your favorites handy. So, when you forget to close them after their use, these apps keep lingering in the background.

Does closing apps on Apple Watch save battery?

Apps that mainly rely on Bluetooth connection or your location for working, consume battery power significantly. As such, you can experience battery drain. Closing them saves battery power for extended use!
