Apart from calculating the total cost of fuel required to travel to the destination, you should also be mindful of toll pricing on your route. The new Google Maps toll pass prices feature helps you estimate the total cost of your journey by adding up the toll amounts on your route. That way, you can choose a different option that is either cheaper or has no tolls.
How to use the Google Maps toll pass prices function to check the cost of toll pricing
Previously, Maps from Google just showed you if a particular route had tolls or not. So, the addition of the Google Maps toll pass prices option makes things a lot more convenient. You can see the estimated toll price to your destination before you start navigating and make the choice between using toll roads or regular roads easier.
- Launch the Google Maps app.
- Enter your destination.
- Tap the directions tab to get the route map.
- Tap the Showing toll pass prices icon.
- Check the estimated cost of tolls.
- See the number of tolls present on your route.
- Change toll settings, if required.
This Google Maps with toll calculator feature is available on both platforms, Android and iOS. Currently, it shows prices for nearly 2000 toll roads in the U.S., India, and Indonesia. More countries are likely to be added to the list in the coming days.
Can Google calculate tolls?
Yes, all you need is the Google Maps app installed on your device and running the latest version. Then, you can configure the app to show the estimated toll price to your destination before you start navigating. Here’s how it is done!
Launch the Google Maps app. Make sure the app has access to Location Services.
Next, enter your destination in the input field. Allow the app to load the map with the route and a pin icon (marked in red) attached to it. Just below it, you should find the Directions tab. Tap it to go to the next screen.
Slightly above the Fastest route heading, you’ll find the time required to reach your destination. Adjacent to it, tap the Toll pass prices button.
When directed to a new screen, check the estimated toll cost.
You can also find the number of tolls you’ll have to pass during the course of your journey.
If you would like to switch to a more affordable route, tap the Change toll settings link.
Then, under the Route options screen, select the desired option.
Note – The toll pricing shown is based on trusted information sourced from local tolling authorities and takes toll passes and time of day into account when calculating the total cost.
Google Maps cannot estimate toll charges for your journey
It’s likely you belong to a region where the feature is not yet supported. If not, check if the option to see toll pass prices is disabled.
Tap the profile image under the Search here field.
Next, scroll down to the Settings option.
Expand the Navigation menu by tapping the side-arrow.
Under Toll price heading, enable the toggle next See toll pass prices entry.
That’s all there is to it. Hope it makes sense!
