However, many native digital users who do not know how to check it can get utterly mystified. Worry not, Apple offers more than one way to check your Mac storage space and make more room for your data, if necessary.
How to check Mac storage?
Good storage management is important for making sure you always have the space you want, when you need it. It’s also equally important to keep tabs on the storage space before the drive fill up eventually. No matter what kind of computer you have (Mac or Windows), there’s are enough ways to find it. Here’s how to check your Mac storage.
- Go to the Apple menu.
- Select About this Mac option.
- Switch to the Storage tab.
- Wait for a few seconds.
- Check the mac storage space.
- See the breakup to manage the space.
- Alternatively, you can use Finder or Disk utility.
That’s how you can see how much storage space is used on your Mac and how much space is available.
How to check MacBook Storage?
To optimize your Mac laptop storage and make more room for your data, find how much storage is available on MacBook Air. For this, go to the Apple menu.
Select About this Mac option.
In the new screen that appears, switch to the Storage tab.
Here, you will see the amount of space available out of the total space allocated.
To see the breakup of storage space on your device, hover the mouse cursor over an area and check the amount of space used out of the total space allocated on your system.
Similarly, you can check the same via the Get info option. For this, it is necessary to have the Macintosh HD icon added to your Desktop screen. If it’s not, open the Finder application.
Then, go to the Finder menu and select the Finder Preferences option as shown in the image above.
Next, when the Finder Preferences window opens, switch to the General tab. Check the Hard Disks box seen under Show these items on the desktop heading.
When the icon becomes visible on the Desktop screen, right-click it and choose the Get info option.
You should find all the information related to your Macintosh HD in the new window that opens on your screen.
Lastly, you can use the Disk Utility to check the same. Inside the Spotlight field, type Disk Utility and hit the Return key.
Once Disk Utility comes up, select your hard drive’s name from the list. Here, you can see your drive’s capacity, its available space, its used space, and other info.
From the same window, you can also check the free space available for any USB flash drive or external hard drive, connected to your MacBook.
