Display a custom message on the MacBook login screen

In addition to choosing the desired macOS Wallpaper as your Desktop background, you can display a custom message on the MacBook login screen. It’s a very useful way of adding some important message or greeting. So, if you don’t mind experimenting a bit with your default settings, go ahead and make our MacBook show a custom text on the login screen.

The message you want to display can be any custom string of text of your choosing and can add a bit of both, fun and motivation to get started. Let’s dive in to see how to show a custom message on the MacBook login screen.

  1. On your Mac, go to the Apple menu.
  2. Choose System Preferences.
  3. Navigate to Security & Privacy.
  4. Select the General section.
  5. Check the Show a message when the screen is locked box.
  6. Select the Lock Message option.
  7. Enter the message you want to display in the login window.
  8. Hit the Ok button.

Note – The message can also act as a virtual engraving, to provide contact information for a misplaced computer.

How do you personalize your lock screen on a Mac?

The login screen on your MacBook doesn’t really show anything else apart from the list of users which you can then click to log in to your account. You can add a bit of customization to it. Here’s how!

On your Desktop screen, go to the Apple Menu, visible in the upper-left corner. Then, from the list of options displayed therein, select the System Preferences option.

Next, navigate to Security & private icon under the System Preferences window. If the lock at the bottom left is locked, click it to unlock the preference pane.

Switch to the General tab.

Now, locate the Show a message when the screen is locked box. When found, select the option.

Choose the Set Lock message option.

Type in the message you want to display in the login window. The message can be anything appropriate to users attempting to log in

When done, hit the Ok button to save the changes made.

Now, when your MacBook is locked and you try to log in, you’ll see the custom message appearing there.
