How to create HomePod Stereo Pair

November 27, 2021 by Hemant Saxena

Having multiple HomePods set up at home is a luxury not all can afford but if you do have 2 or more smart speakers at home, you can pair two of them in the same room. Yes, you can create a stereo pair with left and right channels for experiencing an immersive soundstage. Let’s find out how to create a HomePod Stereo pair. Believe me, it’s largely a painless process.

HomePod Stereo Pair delivers a more room-filling sound

Before you proceed with the HomePod Stereo process, make sure that both speakers are in the same room, and visible under the Home app. If they do, the user is automatically prompted if he/she would like to form a stereo pair, and thereafter, in a matter of minutes, you can fill your room with the amazing audio.

  1. On your iPhone, launch the Home App.
  2. Touch and hold a HomePod visible under it.
  3. Tap the Settings button, when seen.
  4. Choose the Create Stereo Pair link there.
  5. Assign the left and right channels manually.
  6. When done, exit and enjoy the sound experience.

In theory you can place your HomePod speaker anywhere you like but in practice, it should always be near a mains outlet.

How do you play 2 HomePods at once?

It’s important to remember, when 2 HomePod speakers are set up as a stereo pair, only one responds to Siri requests, plays alarms, and acts as a speakerphone.

On your iPhone, launch the Home app. You can also access the app via Control Center.

Once there, find and select your HomePod. In my case, it’s the Bedroom HomePod as shown in the image above.

Next, touch and hold the HomePod for a second until the Settings button is visible at the bottom. When seen, tap it to go to your HomePod settings.

When directed to the Audio Settings screen, assign the left and right channels manually. Simply tap on the desired HomePod to identify it as the main speaker. This speaker will respond to Siri requests, plays alarms, and act as a speakerphone.

Now, with two HomePod speakers set up as a stereo pair, your room’s soundstage will get even wider and deliver a more room-filling sound. Each HomePod will automatically adjust its audio to sound great using spatial awareness to sense and play music completely in sync.

Can you Stereo pair HomePod and HomePod Mini?

No, you can’t mix up two different variants. You can either create a stereo pair with two HomePod mini speakers or two HomePod speakers in the same room. The pairing of similar variants ensures you create the right setup for an immersive soundstage.

HomePod stereo pair not working?

Weirdly enough, you can solve this problem by pairing, then unplugging, re-plugging, and moving the HomePods a bit. Also, check if you are running the latest version of the Software. If not, you can manually update it through the Home App.

Hope that makes sense!
