How to AirPlay only audio from a Mac Computer

The second-generation version of Apple’s Wi-Fi streaming tech – AirPlay enables you to stream a wide range of content from your iOS devices to your Apple TV and other compatible televisions. But what if you only want to share audio without someone else peeping on your screen? Well, in that case, you can use an AirPlay-supporting speaker to listen to music? Follow these steps to AirPlay only audio on compatible speakers via Apple Music or directly from a Mac.

AirPlay only audio from a Mac Computer

There are two ways via which you can AirPlay only audio from a Mac computer. First is by using Apple Music on a Mac and second, directly from Mac.

  1. Go to Apple Music on Mac.
  2. Click the AirPlay icon.
  3. Select your speaker from the list of devices.
  4. To AirPlay music directly from Mac, click on the Apple menu.
  5. Choose System Preferences > Sound.
  6. Switch to the Output tab.
  7. Select your speaker.
  8. Adjust the volume using the slider.

How to use AirPlay from Mac?

The latest version of AirPlay, in addition to mirroring content on Apple TV, ushers in multi-room compatibility for the HomePod. For enabling the above-mentioned capabilities, you’ll need a Mac, running OS X Mountain Lion, or later.

Before proceeding further, make sure that you’re using thelatest version of Apple Music on your Mac. Also see to it that your devices areconnected to the same Wi-Fi or ethernet network. Then go through the followingsteps,

Open ‘Apple Music’ on your Mac.

To the right of the volume slider in Apple Music, you’ll see the Macbook AirPlay icon, click it.

Thereafter, choose a speaker that you want to play the current audio to by checking the box marked against it.

If you would also like to stream audio or AirPlay from Mac to your Apple TV, HomePod, or a compatible speaker directly, go to the Apple menu.

Then, select ‘System Preferences’ and then, choose ‘Sound’.

Next, under the ‘Output’ tab, select a speaker that you want to stream audio to. If you select Show volume in the menu bar, then you can quickly change the audio output by clicking the Volume icon in the menu bar.
