How to control brightness of backlit Magic Keyboard keys on iPad

April 12, 2022 by Hemant Saxena

Just like your iPad, the brightness of the backlit Magic Keyboard keys automatically adjusts based on the surrounding light conditions. Still, if you would like to control it manually, you can add an action to the Control Center and make things a lot easier for you.

Besides offering the convenience of using them in the dark, the backlit Magic Keyboard keys on the iPad also add spunk to the face of your iPad, especially by allowing you to adjust the brightness level, as desired.

  1. On your iPad Home Screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Go to the General section.
  3. Scroll down to the Keyboard entry.
  4. Expand the Hardware Keyboard option under it.
  5. Move to the Keyboard Brightness section.
  6. Use the slider to adjust the brightness.

Please note that you should be running iPadOS 15.4 to use this feature.

Does iPad Magic Keyboard have backlit keys?

Yes, it does have a backlight that illuminates the letters and symbols on the keys to make them visible in low-light environments. Also, the print on the keys is semi-transparent, so the light underneath shines through it like a window.

How do I adjust the brightness on my Magic Keyboard?

There’s no default key on the keyboard that will let you change the backlit keyboard brightness control. You’ll have to jump into the Settings of iPadOS. Here’s how!

Open the Settings app on your iPad. Go to the General section.

The new iPadOS 15.4 allows you to add a Keyboard Brightness control shortcut for the Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad via Control Center.
